Junior Road Safety Officers

Each year the school has a small group of Year 6 Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSOs). Their role involves raising awareness of how to keep safe on the roads and pavements. Regular meetings are held to voice concerns, discuss road safety and how the importance of this can be communicated to keep everyone safe. The team lead assemblies on Road Safety, run competitions to raise awareness and monitor traffic and parking outside the school. In the past, they have met with the police to discuss concerns and have raised concerns with our governing body.

Modeshift STARS is the national schools awards scheme that has been established to recognise schools that have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel. The scheme encourages schools across the country to join in a major effort to increase levels of sustainable and active travel in order to improve the health and well-being of children and young people.

Here at St Mary's we are working on this scheme with our Junior Road Safety Officers.

We look forward to your support in keeping the roads and streets safe for everyone.
